David Michael Ruiz

David Michael Ruiz was born on January 1, 1953, in Austin, Texas, to Jesse and Obdulia F. Ruiz. He grew up with his brother, Henry Richard Ruiz, and sister, Gerylin Martinez. After graduating from Antonian High School in 1972, David pursued higher education at St. Edward's University, earning degrees in Psychology and English with a concentration in Writing in 1976, completing 156 credit hours in just four years. His academic journey laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to both education and service.

In 1980, David received his commission in the United States Air Force, where he served with

distinction, rising to the rank of Captain before transitioning to civilian life. His diverse career includes roles as an investment counselor, classroom teacher, substitute teacher, and administrative officer in the Air Force. He also served as a Special Agent for the United States Customs Service. David retired in June 2016 after a rich and varied professional life, during which he embodied the values of discipline, service, and lifelong learning. David married Hua Zhang on September 23, 2016, in Chongqing, China, marking a new chapter

in his life enriched by diverse cultural experiences. His international exposure has deepened his understanding of different faiths and philosophies, including Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Orthodox Christianity. His faith, rooted in his Catholic upbringing, has been a guiding force throughout his life. He credits his early connection to Christ and the influence of family and mentors, particularly Father Henry I. Moczygemba, for shaping his spiritual journey.

As a service-related disabled veteran, David honors not only his own military service but the legacy of his father, a World War II veteran whose sacrifice and patriotism inspire him daily. David’s writing is deeply influenced by his faith, his global experiences, and his commitment to understanding the human condition. His work reflects a lifetime of learning, gratitude, and a strong sense of purpose. David now focuses on his writing, bringing a rich tapestry of personal experiences, cultural insights, and spiritual reflections to his literary endeavors. He lives by the motto; "Viva Cristo Rey"; and continues to be an active participant in his faith and community.
